Brian Cook – The CEO and co-founder of UltiSpace. Brian has been actively involved with the ultimate frisbee community for the last ten years. He has been a player, coach, photographer and, most recently, a media specialist. Brian grew up in Amherst, MA where he attended Tiina Booth’s ultimate frisbee day camps and later in his playing career Brian was one of the first players to attend the National Ultimate Training Camp in 2001. Brian has played for the Amherst Middle School ultimate travel team, ARHS JV B, JV A, and Varsity teams. In 2005, Brian and his team won the Eastern Championships in Pittsburgh, PA and finished second at the Youth Club Championships in Minneapolis, MN. In 2006, Brian was hired as one of the head photographers for the WFDF Junior World Championships at Fort Devens, MA. During the summers of 2007, 2008, and 2009 the National Ultimate Training Camp hired Brian as a media specialist. Brian has been working on developing UltiSpace for the last year now.

Academically, Brian has a BFA degree in Visual Media (Photography and, Web/Graphic Design) with a Minor in Business Management from the Rochester Institute of Technology and a concentration in Economics. He is currently working as an Apprentice Teacher and Sports Consultant at the Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter School in South Hadley, MA.


Daniel Kasal – COO and co-founder of UltiSpace, Daniel has played and been involved in Ultimate Frisbee since 2000. Daniel grew up in Westhampton, MA but attended Amherst Public schools from 7th grade until graduation in 2006. Along with Brian, Daniel was a member first of Tiina Booth's Day Ultimate camps, and then was the one of the first to attend Tiina's National Ultimate Training Camp. After playing throughout high school, Daniel has stayed in touch with the Ultimate Community while attending UMass Amherst.

Daniel is currently taking some time off of school to pursue other interests, and to put some devoted time purely to the production of UltiSpace. When he returns Daniel will complete his degree in Psychology, and pursue his studies further to obtain an MBA in international business.

 
Jason Chow –
Our editor in chief, Jason Chow, began playing ultimate at Amherst Regional High School where he graduated in 2004 and has been actively playing and coaching ever since. He has coached for many years at day camps and for junior summer leagues in Amherst and continues to return and contribute. In the fall of 2004, Jason went on to play for Syracuse for four years. While at Syracuse, he coached the Syracuse women and graduated a two-year captain in 2008 with a degree in Psychology. Along the way, he played club out of Syracuse, and for the Gunslingers out of Boston. Jason has worked at WFDF Junior World Championships, the UCPC, written for a variety of ultimate websites, works as a counselor at the National Ultimate Training Camp, coaches the BUDA Open YCC team, and contributes to the work of Ultimate Peace. Jason now teaches at ARHS where he is committed to both the boys' and girls' programs full-time.

 

Tiina Booth – The Assistant Editor and Chief Advisor, Tiina Booth, moved to Amherst in 1989 when she was hired as an English teacher at Amherst Regional High School. In 1992, she founded the Amherst Invitational, the oldest high school ultimate tournament in the U.S. She coaches the boys’ varsity team at ARHS and in 1997 was featured in Sports Illustrated’s “Faces in the Crowd” for her coaching achievements. In 1998 Booth co-founded the Junior National Ultimate Championship, which her team eventually won. For the next four years, her team finished in the top four, with runner-up finishes in 2001 and 2002. The following year, the Hurricanes won the national title again in Birmingham, Alabama; they repeated in 2004 in Corvallis, Oregon. In 2005 they won the Eastern Championships in Pittsburgh and finished second at YCC in Minneapolis.

Booth also coached the U.S. Juniors Boys Team at the World Ultimate Championships in 1998 and 2000, winning the gold and bronze medals respectively. In 2004, she coached this team again with Michael Baccarini and they took home the gold, with a victory over the Canadian juniors in the finals. She has just recently finished writing a book about ultimate with Michael Baccarini, titled Essential Ultimate.

Ari Kasal - The resident fitness and health expert, Ari has been involved in the Ultimate community since the year 2000 when he began playing at Amherst High School. He has been a player, captain, coach, and observer. Ari grew up in Amherst MA, and has played for ARHS Varsity, UMass A, and an assortment of both open and mixed club teams. In 2002 Ari finished second with his team at Junior Nationals in Atlanta, GA. In 2008 Ari worked both as an observer and scorekeeper at College Nationals, and has been captaining teams in the Denver leagues in conjunction with the Colorado Ultimate Association.

Academically, Ari graduated from Umass Amherst with a BSA in Kinesiology and is currently working as an EMT and Firefighter in Amherst.
